Barbara B. Courtney

PATENT ATTORNEY

Ms. Courtney began her career as an electrical engineer before becoming a patent attorney. Her entire career has been involved with Silicon Valley high technology, initially obtaining hundreds of hardware and software patents for public companies such as Intel, ATI, Xilinx, AMD, and more. As her practice evolved from working in big law to heading her own firms, the focus shifted to venture-backed companies whose vision she could share and whose portfolios she could grow as a team member of the company. She is most proud of the successful exits of several of her companies and the fact that the principals remain clients with new companies. She considers her greatest strengths to be understanding the client’s technology as well as its objectives, and having the experience dealing with patent offices all over the world to turn ideas into patent assets.
